Sms on Matrix
Step used to setup a jmp.chat ---> aria-net.org/bifrost ---> matrix homeserver connection
Simple idea
It would be neat to be able to use my Matrix homeserver to receive SMS and VOIP from the telephony system. There are probably many ways to set this up, but in the podcast Ask Noah Show EP. 275 made it sound so easy I had to try.
Steps taken
Jabber ID
Figure out what your aria jabber id will be Aria-net Bridges
The address syntax to access XMPP from Matrix:
- Private chats: @_bifrost_USER=40DOMAIN:aria-net.org
- MUCs: #_bifrost_MUCNAME_MUCDOMAIN:aria-net.org
The address syntax to access Matrix from XMPP:
- Direct chats: USERNAME_DOMAIN@aria-net.org
- Public chats: #ALIAS#DOMAIN@aria-net.org
Example:
USERNAME_DOMAIN@aria-net.org
testuser_matrix.org@aria-net.org
jmp.chat
Go here https://jmp.chat
Scroll down to the bottom and pick a number
On the next page choose ‘I already have a Jabber ID I want to use…’
Submit the ID from aria-net
And you should receive a message in matrix
Follow the instructions
Pay
- Using a credit card they seem to default to $15 increments, and you can enable auto top up
Outcome
SMS messages worked well. I was able to receive voicemails via my Element client.
VOIP calls were not working
