jmp.chat Account Recovery and Transfer
Journal progress to recover a jmp.chat number.
Status
Back up and running after chatting with cheogram support; currently sticking with XMPP for now, I’ll switch back to matrix later. Also I now have a port-out pin. Aria-net support was helpful.
Lessons learned
Keep a copy of your Room ID Request a port-out pin The support people I interacted with were nice and helpful.
Issue
Around the beginning of the last week, 2022-03-13, I deleted my lxc container that had my synapse homeserver; instead of the snapshot I meant to delete. And my backups were created before I created a paid https://jmp.chat account via aria-net/bifrost; Digital Ocean weekly’s. I’ve been trying to figure out how to restore access to the https://jmp.chat account.
Actions
- Number has been transferred! And a port-out pin was added.
- jmp.chat private support, +14169938000@cheogram.com has been contacted; no response as of yet, but that is expected
- discuss@conference.soprani.ca has been contacted, and recommendations to reach out to the private support
- The Bifrost connections have been deleted

The cheogram.com support got back to me during their working hours. Once I was able to explain the situation, they asked for some information; like number, original Jabber ID, payment method. I gave them the information and it was verified. After a bit of time, the number transferred to my new account. They also, suggested that I add a port-out pin to the account, which I agreed to do.
Took a bit of time to get things in order. Their support was great!
Notes:
- If your Jabber ID contains period characters, you might not be able to send it to Cheogram support. They suggested to replace the period characters with commas, and to note the change in the message
- Currently one pool of money can’t be shared with 2 accounts; though you could ask to transfer funds from one account to another.
- jmp.chat does not, at the moment, have a way to accept donations. Though there are a couple work around.
- The aria-net/bifrost bridge might, eventually support calling.

Contacted https://aria-net.org/Lists/Inquiries/Send.aspx They got back to me and asked for the Room ID. Surprisingly enough I somehow copied it from Element’s cache. Once I gave the Room ID they told me that they deleted the room and references from Bifrost’s database
Still can’t get a from cheogram.com if i initiate the chat
I tried the jmp.chat private support, +14169938000@cheogram.com, and got a forbidden response
Finally got time to chat with xmpp:discuss@conference.soprani.ca
Another XMPP account was create with the same username as my matrix user.
Once they understood they told me to contact support.
Trying again, with the different username, and waiting for a response

Reached out to the #geeklab:linuxdelta.com Got some response, and some ideas on how to proceed One of the responses had the link to https://aria-net.org/Lists/Inquiries/Send.aspx Also a recommendation to create a XMPP account and contact jmp.chat was given.

Accidentally deleted the container that had the matrix homeserver
Restored it from backups, the backups were too old to have the room that was needed.
Created a new XMPP account with a new username. A forbidden response was received with that account and was not able to contact them
Recreating the room manually it didn’t work. I copied the source of one of the messages in the original room
